Adelaide-born artist, Wendy Hannam discovered her love of glass after several years in the graphic design / textile industry. Her work focuses on the dialogue between two dimensional design and pattern making and three dimensional surfaces. Through thematic compositions and groupings of form and pattern, she aims to create'city scapes' in glass that express her exploration into the abstracted visual language of architecture, urban design and map making. She aims to make glass pieces of uncomplicated lines with an emphasis on a strong graphic quality.
The simple forms that are devoid of strong colour and unnecessary visual distractions result in more from less, strength from subtlety and a quiet complexity. Her work has been exhibited amongst others in Australia, the United States and Europe and is represented in domestic and international publications. She is a 1999 Ranamok Glass Prize finalist.
